Intended Use
The CRP Latex is a qualitative and semi-quantitative immunoassay for the determination of C-reactive protein (CRP) in human serum. The Assay is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of inflammatory, infective and ischemic conditions in conjunction with other clinical and laboratory findings. The immunoassay is designed for manual professional in vitro diagnostic use.
Diagnostic Relevance
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a classic acute-phase protein produced primarily by hepatocytes in response to inflammatory stimuli. Under normal physiological conditions, CRP appears only in very low concentrations in the serum. However, tissue injury, infection, or inflammation can trigger a rapid and dramatic increase in CRP levels, sometimes up to 1,000-fold above baseline. This increase represents an important component of the innate immune response and results mainly from the action of pro-inflammatory cytokines released during immune activation.
Clinical Relevance of CRP Measurement
Because CRP levels rise rapidly during inflammatory processes, clinicians widely use CRP measurement as a screening tool for detecting organic disease and monitoring disease activity. Elevated CRP concentrations occur in many pathological conditions, including bacterial or viral infections, autoimmune diseases, tissue injury, and ischemic events. In clinical practice, CRP testing helps physicians evaluate the presence and intensity of inflammation and supports the differentiation between inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions.
Diagnostic Use of the CRP Latex Test
The CRP Latex test provides a sensitive and reproducible method for the rapid detection of increased CRP levels in patient samples. The assay enables clinicians to assess the severity of inflammation and monitor patient responses to therapy. Its simplicity, reliability, and short turnaround time make the test suitable for routine laboratory diagnostics as well as for point-of-care applications that require rapid clinical decision-making.
